RENENS

GRAND PIANORAMAX

Switzerland | Soul, Jazz, Groove, Classical

Grand Pianoramax is an unusual band in the Swiss landscape. A real stage phenomenon, the duo, now augmented by Gaspard Sommer and Angelo Powers on vocals, has been able to evolve according to the inspirations and desires of its creator, keyboardist Léo Tardin, but also to the new waves of jazz in perpetual evolution. If the English scene has strongly influenced this new album, the arrival of Gaspard Sommer who sings in French brings a touch of poetry, while maintaining the groove that has made Grand Pianoramax famous throughout the world.

After a 4-year break, Grand Pianoramax is back with “Past Forwards”, a new EP released in September 2020. Resolutely danceable, this new opus revives the aesthetics of his first productions such as “Starlite”, released as a single in 2003 with Jojo Mayer and which has since become a classic of acid jazz / broken beats.

Grand Pianoramax is also :

  • soon 350’000 Spotify streams of the track “Carefree” from the last album released in 2016.
  • concerts in major international venues such as Tokyo Jazz Festival (twice: 2014 and 2015), Paléo (Club Tent 2014), Berlin Philharmonic (1015), Rock Altitude (2013), Jazz à La Villette et La Défense (Paris, 2011), Palac Akropolis (Prague, 2012) Cully Jazz (Chapiteau 2011 and Next Step 2016), South by SouthWest (Austin, 2011), Istanbul Jazz Festival (2009), to name but a few
  • a definite reference and influence from the mid-2000s on the European electro jazz scene, still relevant today.

collaborations with modern drumming visionaries such as Jojo Mayer and Deantoni Parks, and progressive slammers/rappers made in the US including Black Cracker, Mike Ladd, Invicible and Frenchman Spleen.

LEON PHAL 5

Switzerland | Jazz, Groove

A promising saxophonist,Léon Phal is part of this young generation of jazz musicians who have been fed up with the classics, from which he frees himself while paying tribute to each note with brio, whether it be Roy Hargrove’s RH Factor or D’Angelo’s “Voodoo.

Surrounded by his lifelong accomplices, his mastery of the instrument, his incredible sense of melody and the delicacy of his compositions amplified by a devastating groove, augur well for the future of this Franco-Swiss native of Aÿ in Champagne.

A freshness and talent that have not escaped the attention of the Nancy Jazz Pulsations and Jazz à Vienne festivals, where he is one after the other the winner of the 2019 springboards. Awarded the title of “Revelation” by Jazz News and Jazz Magazine for the release of his first album “Canto Bello”,Léon Phal leads a brilliant quintet whose influences and imagination inspire remarkable improvisations. If he is already flirting with the big boys of contemporary jazz, there is no doubt that his breath, his curiosity and his free spirit will take him far. Produced as part of the RéZZo Focal Jazz à Vienne, published on the latest of the ambitious Parisian jazz labels Kyudo Records, his new album “Dust to Stars” is a marvellous example of what we love most about this new jazz scene: his free and kinetic interpretation of the music, combined with a solid base of references – acquired for the most part by the group on the benches of the Conservatoire and the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne – A jazz whose influences and colours touch everyone’s musical sensitivities, desecrating access to the genre
